India, Sri Lanka set for SSC Test

July 22, 2008

The star-studded Indian batting line-up, despite all the experience, will be a trifle wary of young spinner Mendis who has sought to gain a few psychological points by declaring that he is working on developing a new delivery to add variety to his armoury.

Clearly, the onus will be on the Indians to get on top of him and there is no reason why a batting order that boasts of class batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and V V S Laxman cannot counter him.

  • But the visitors are aware that they should not make the mistake of focussing on Mendis alone.

"Sure, he is going to be one of their four or five bowlers, but you cannot just focus on Mendis. They have got a couple of other guys [Muralitharan and Vaas] who have got 1000 wickets between them," Dravid said.

"It will be a big mistake to focus just on Mendis. We will just play it as we see it. We have come against a lot of bowlers in our times and we have succeeded against them," Dravid added.
