Resuming at their overnight score of 161 for 5, Dravid along with VVS Laxman saved the visitors from embarrassment, putting on crucial 85 runs for the sixth wicket.
The former Indian captain scored a gritty 68, studded with six boundaries, before edging a Ajantha Mendis delivery to Mahela Jayawardene at first slip.
