The Boy Wonder from Bombay made a much-anticipated Test debut at those most difficult of frontiers -- Pakistan.
The fast bowlers from across the border were a feared lot in the 1980s and the young Tendulkar got a taste of it all when he was felled and bloodied by a Waqar Younis (making his debut for Pakistan) bouncer.
Younis bowled Tendulkar for 15, but not before the Indian had shown a stomach for fight.
Tendulkar got the number to speak when he hit a half-century in the Test in Faisalabad.
