In his cricketing gear, he may look a bit like the mirror image of Sanath Jayasuriya, but in his short career so far Dimitri Mascarenhas has proved that he can smash the ball as hard as the Sri Lankan batting genius, and maybe even oftener.

It was a treat for the packed crowd at the Oval as Mascarenhas smashed five successive sixes off Yuvraj Singh in the final over of the England innings in the sixth one-dayer of the Natwest Series, Wednesday.

He smashed 36 from 15 deliveries to help England notch up a huge 316 for six in their 50 overs. Earlier in the series, he had smashed five sixes and a boundary in a blazing knock of 52 in 39 deliveries in the second ODI of the series, at Bristol.
