India's eight-month wait for a new coach could end with Gary Kirsten, the former South African opener and one of the most prolific scorers in world cricket before he hanged his willow in 2004.
The 40-year-old Kirsten is the front-runner to take on the job, left vacant by Greg Chappell, after he met with the BCCI coach selection committee and captain Anil Kumble in New Delhi on Monday night.
Reports suggest that Kirsten could be on board by December 3 to familiarise with the team ahead of their tour to Australia next month.
