India captain Anil Kumble took four wickets to bowl out Pakistan for 231 after Misbah-ul Haq was unluckily run out for 82 on the second day of the first Test on Friday.
Misbah continued his valiant effort after Pakistan resumed on their overnight 210 for eight and was heading towards a richly deserved maiden Test hundred until his freakish dismissal.
His 87-run ninth-wicket partnership with Mohammad Sami ended when he was run out by a direct hit from point by Dinesh Karthik as he leapt to avoid being hit by the ball at the non-striker's end, failing to reach the crease to complete a single.
The 37-year-old Kumble cashed in on the breakthrough by bowling last man Danish Kaneria for duck in the next over.
