Strike bowler Shoaib Akhtar gave Pakistan an early breakthrough when he trapped Sachin Tendulkar leg before wicket for 4.
Shoaib was unlucky not to make more inroads as Sourav Ganguly (39) and Gautam Gambhir (44) nicked him past the slip region many times early on.
