South Africa captain Graeme Smith played some breathtaking strokes, including two successive ondrives off Zaheer Khan which pushed him into the 90s. But just when he was insight of a century, tried to muscle Anil Kumble on the on-side but could only drive on the up and Virender Sehwag standing just next to the crease picked a nice low catch.
He faced 142 deliveries in smashing 94 and put on 159 runs for the second wicket with Amla from 288 balls.
South Africa were all out for 373, 41 runs behind India on the first innings, on Day 3 in the third Test at the Sahara Park Newlands Stadium.
