Australia opener Simon Katich scored a patient 36 off 69 balls after losing opening partner Phil Jaques for two in the fourth over.
Australia shook off months of rust to post an imposing 279 for 9 off 50 overs against the West Indies in the first one-day international of the tri-series in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The world champions have not played for more than four months and are using the Malaysian tri-series to experiment with some new players as they build towards the Champions Trophy and the Ashes.
Australia won the match by 78 runs.
