After an half hour's delayed start due to cloudy conditions, the local team was off to a sedate start with Mahmood and James Anderson maintaining a tidy line and length.
Gautam Gambhir did not last long either and departed edging to wicketkeeper Matt Prior while attempting a leg glance off Anderson.
