The run-riot in Colombo

This was a sight the visiting South African bowlers were getting increasingly sick of.

12 batsmen had been dismissed for 183 runs, on a tricky first day wicket in the first Test in Colombo, before Mahela Jayawardene and Kumara Sangakkara joined forces.

The duo cruised Sri Lanka to safety, parried the team to a healthy lead, hopped across milestones and smashed a host of batting records.

It was more than a day-and-half later before the South African bowlers tasted success in Colombo.
