The Charge of the Light Brigade in India
A division of the British Light Dragoons toured India these last 10 days.
The Light Dragoons, a regiment of the British Army, was formed in the 18th century and has been part of several famous military campaigns including the Napoleonic wars and the Battle of Waterloo.
The regiment led the charge of the Light Brigade -- immortalised by Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem
-- in the Crimean War.
The Light Dragoons have served in India too.
Twenty cricketers from the Light Dragoons, led by Major Seb Pollington, the deputy commanding officer, played matches in Delhi and Mumbai.
The Light Dragoons also visited their sister regiment, the Indian 1st Horse -- the Skinner's Horse regiment -- at Hissar, Haryana. Before arriving in India these men were posted in Al Muthanna, a southern province of Iraq.
