'A player like Badrinath will be very good for any Test side'

-- Tamil Nadu coach W V Raman

Badrinath has improved as a batsman in the last couple of years. Improvement is what is needed for anyone who wants to play for the country. If you look at from where he started off, and where he is today, it shows remarkable improvement.

Today, as captain of Tamil Nadu, he has the responsibility to fulfill as the leading batsman too. He has understood that and is doing quite well. He has become very positive and improved his shot selection.

His basic advantage is his temperament. As a batsman, he has the ability to play very long innings. I look at him as a Test cricketer to start off with; once he gets the hang of international cricket, he can be a good one-day cricketer too. A player like Badrinath will be very good for any Test side.

His chances of getting selected for the Indian team were very high because of his performance for the India 'A' team in Australia and also in the Ranji Trophy matches. He has been consistent too. So there was every reason to believe that his chances were very high in getting a place in the Indian side. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But the guy did not get bogged down by that. The very next day he came down and batted well for Tamil Nadu.

As he narrowly missed selection the last time, hopefully his entry into the Indian team will happen very soon.
