Super hits, Super flops

By winning the one-day Super Series Australia showed that it needs more than a collection of stars on a holiday to derail them from the pedestal of world champions.

Though the tournament was touted as the hottest cricket series ever, it lacked the passion or intent of country versus country. Shaun Pollock may have dismissed earlier claims that the team could find it difficult to gel as a unit, but by the end of it he knew, and we all knew, that an ICC logo is not enough to motivate players under a closed roof.

Australian fans gave the tournament a lukewarm response, as none of the games sold out and empty tracts in the stadium greeted the players.

The world champions had to prove a point: 'We ain't done yet.' And they did it emphatically. They gulped the bitter Ashes loss and moved on to beat a fragmented World XI to pulp.

A look at the players who rose to the occasion and those who let the moment pass during the series.
