The Foreign Hand

There are two tribes of coaches: those who have been fired and those who will be. But their actions before they either go or stay hold the key to the progress of a team.

Did you know that at the upcoming Asia Cup the fortunes of every team rests on a coach of foreign origin?

A look at them:

Syed Abid Ali - UAE

As a cricketer, Syed Abid Ali was tailor-made for One-Day Internationals. The former India Test player bowled medium pace, fielded outstandingly in almost any position, was extremely quick between wickets and could wield the long handle when necessary.

As a coach, he has tried to imbibe exactly those qualities in the United Arab Emirates side. Since he took over the side in 2001, the UAE claimed the ACC Trophy thrice in succession. With him at the helm surely more success awaits the team.
