Letter of the Day

January 23, 2004

Poor Stuart

The Aussie selectors have given a clear signal that Shane Warne will have to just turn his arm over to regain his place in the Test side. And it is only likely to be at the cost of Stuart MacGill.

Therein lies the irony! If memory serves me right, I think MacGill has been as successful, if not more, whenever he and Warne have played together in a Test. He has also been quite successful against other teams who are not as adept at playing the wrong 'un as the Indians.

Yes, MacGill bowls the boundary balls regularly to keep the spectators involved, but he was also more successful than Warne against the Indians. The Indians would have relished Warne's presence in the last series!

Indeed, how lucky Warney Is! MacGill does all the hard work against the best batting side against spin (I say this with conviction) and will be booted out! And Shane will come back, will be pardoned if he has a rough series in Sri Lanka (coming back after a long layoff, you see!) and then will, as usual, find easy pickings against England!

Poor Stuart Little will, meanwhile, go back to bowling in the Aussie equivalent of the Ranji Trophy!

Signed
Anand Natarajan
