168 Tests, 32 hundreds, 10,000 plus runs. With Steve Waugh, it is not well-known statistics that characterise his batting, but when and how the runs were compiled. Most of them came under pressure.

Indeed, adversity brought out the best in Waugh. It was in the toughest situations that he consistently delivered, guiding his team from a precarious position to one of dominance.

As captain, he elevated his team to unparalleled heights; as a batsman, he was the right man at the right time, one whose contribution to Australia's success will not be forgotten.
